Semi Long Question, but I would like a sound answer based upon the following details, please. I am considering taking my two Coach Nick Saban autographed Special Limited Edition 13th National Championship footballs (that I bought from Nikco Sports in January) to Coach Gene Stallings (who won the 12th Alabama National Championship) on Thursday to get his signature. One is out of the box that I proudly display in my home, and another is still boxed up. Both have accompanying photos of Coach Saban signing his name, with numbered certificates of authenticity. So I would have two footballs with two of the Crimson Tide coaches' signatures. BUT a friend cautioned me and said he would make triple sure that since these two collector's footballs are authenticated and certified for Coach Nick Saban.....make sure that it would NOT decrease their value if I had Coach Gene Stallings to sign them as well. I've heard opinions on all sides saying an autograph might decrease the value, and that a Stallings autograph might increase the value. Of course, I will photograph Coach Stallings signing, but that will be my only proof. On the other hand, I wonder if I could get Gene Stallings signature authenticated by a signature specialist or a serious collector? As long as I'm sure it will not decrease their value, I am leaning towards getting them both signed by Coach Stallings on Thursday. All this being said, Lee, do you think it would be decrease the value of my footballs to have Coach Gene Stallings to sign them? Thanks so much, Lee. I still intend to sell one of them, and I know only serious Alabama fans or collector's would buy it, but there are lots of people like that I think. Another concern is that Coach Gene Stallings is getting older. If he passed away (God forbid) sometime soon, I would hate myself for not getting his autograph.
