I want to pledge to a fraternity, but I dont drink and dont plan on it, so I dont want people to pressure me and much less make me do it. All the other stuff is fine, but drinking is not my thing and I refuse to do it. However, I have heard pledging at Alabama is bad and hell week is even worse.

You don't join a fraternity like a club. First off, its called rush. You go to each of the respective houses, and listen to what they have to say. You find out the chapter's strengths, and then hope for a bid- this is where you are invited to join the fraternity and go through new member education. It is against the law to haze (harass physically or mentally a new member). You also may want to check out each fraternity's national website, so you can get an idea of what the mission is for each. For example, mine Alpha Tau Omega is a leadership fraternity.
